Speaking personally, I don’t have a preference, but I would shop locally if you can find any suppliers near you. If you can’t find any, then I would look for a mail order shop close to you so that shipping is minimized and delivery times are short. My crystal ball suggests that you are in the southeast where the majority of the packaged bees originate for the east coast. You should have several companies to choose from. You will also need to decide whether or not you want to buy finished wooden ware or buy a kit to assemble. I have found assembly costs relatively low, so if you are just getting started, perhaps this is the way to go. You will find complete kits that include the hive, veil, smoker, hive tool, etc. which makes it easy and saves you a little money. Suppiers are pretty busy this time of year, though, so be prepared to wait a little while for your order.
HellO, any suggestions as to reputable companies to order a starter set for beekeeping from?
Thank you!
